Device ( Motorola DCP-501 a.k.a. PHANTOM 999 ) is not 100% compatiable as stated. I have written proof from my cable company in regards to this fact. I did not feel the need to check compatibility before purchasing since there was a 100% money back guarantee states on his front web site home page. The device may not be new as it is over 6 years old and the newest model is 601 not 501. Item was sold as new. The person who called me from info net products or www.inphome.com , identified himself as J.D. . He claims it is new as it has never been provisioned. The he tells me it was remanufactured becuase I got a rebate. Then he goes back to say it was new and now that I have tried to provision it is now is used. He flip flops more than a politician. The rebate offer was a ploy to prevent credit card usage effectively reducing consumer protection. I would save $100 instantly for paying with a money order on a c.o.d. delivery. INPHOME is full of it. You know what it is. I believe the owner name on the bbb file of this company is and alias for John Doe Owner. That is shady in itself. They also have hime listed in AZ at a u.p.s. store. That is fishy too. Either way, I am not satisfied with the product. I did not sign any contracts with the seller agreeing to the very bad return policy, whhich he believes is a contract. The seller will not honor his money back guarantee without substantial charges. He wants to give me about $120 for what I paid $230 for. I also read some other complaints on other forums where people did bite the bullet and return theirs for the promised reduced refund. They claim they didn't even get that. I do not feel I should be liable for shipping charges as I was not shipped the item I ordered, " a compatiable box". I should not be charged a restocking/refurbish fee as I did not cancel my order and the unit doesn't need refurbishing as it was not provisioned by my cable provider. I believe I am due a full refund. I am only willing to pay return shipping. Unit was also described as all in one multimedia surround sound unit with everything you need, but it does not have speakers. I consider speakers important to surround sound. The seller is mostly non responsive except for angry emails and complete disregard for my or others satisfaction. Now he is actually emailing me with rant and raves and lies about me. I thought this was funny when he called me an angry little man. He has never seen me in person. I have been a subscriber of RCN (my local provider) for 4 years now and he is making postings stating that I said I have been stealing cable for that amount of time and was trying to do so with his box. B.S. And no that doesn't stand for Barbara Streisand. This is a dangerous and unstable man. Please beware before buying anything from him. I have placed postings on public forums to warn others, contacted the BBB national, Local sheriffs dept., local tv station with consumer protections, and the federal trade commision for help. Believe it or not many of them have contacted INPHOME and tried to help. But they couldn't make him honor agreement. One agency suggested I start a class action suit. Perhaps you could share my info with the over 30+ vicitms who filed with you the BBB and we can file a class action suit for false advertising.

  1. This customer purchased our Phantom/Motorola unit. It does work. His cable company would not provision it for digital programming. As far as plug & play when he hooked it up he tells us he received analog programming. He did not feel he needed to contact his cable co and have it provisioned for digital. We tell our customers that prior to purchase they need to contact their cable company and confirm they can get it authorized for use as we do guarantee our equipment to work for all law abiding customers. This customer admits he contacted his cable provider after his purchase and was told they would not provision it even though the law requires they do so.. He told us he had a cheater box for years and never had to contact his provider to get programming. When he saw that S&H and a restocking fee would be charged because he could not access free digital programming he threatened us with filing complaints against our company. We will not be intimidated and he is under investigation by UPS for filing false damage claims.If anyone would like to see his complaint and our actions with the BBB please e mail us at ftad123@yahoo.com
    This customer is an angry little man that expected to get free TV using one of our products. Our website www.inphome.com has all warranties, disclaimers and customer responsibilities. We also have full product details on our Phantom/Motorola and for morons like this customer we have a video showing the Phantom Work. The Phantom/Motorola does work and we will send one to any law enforcement, Attorney Generals office or legitimate inspectors office. Someone saying it does not work is one thing, but when it is inspected by a 3rd party and used as our company and Motorola intended, this will clear our companies name. This customer will not accept this challenge as he knows the unit works, just not his illegal way. If you intend to purchase a product from our company please read all warranties, customer responsibilities and disclaimers prior to purchase.
    We sell a Motorola product and stand by it. If your a cable thief and hook the unit up without proper activation from your cable co, please do not order or if you do order and want to return it you will not get S&H back and be subject to restocking fees If your a legitimate cable subscriber and follow the laws you will have your unit up and running in minutes.
    Prior to purchase please read all warranties, disclaimers and customer responsibilities and watch a video of a working unit on our site..A video is worth 10, 000 words.
    If you do not understand ask your sales rep, if you do not agree and/or understand do not order.

  4. Not enough literature on hooking up the box and calling the cable companies. Inphome should publishlist of cable companies they know that will accomodate their box.

The comment,from the first "Anonymous said...",is obviously "J.D.".referring to his customers as an angry little man & morons,shows the contempt he has,for people sending him money.The information on the INPHome website,clearly states the all of their digital set-top boxes will get all analog channels,up through 100,& all digital channels,up through 999.It implies that this will happen,right out of the box.They also do have warnings,that people should contact their cable provider.This is simply a ploy to"cover"themselves.They know that there is a market,for what they purportedly sell.The video they have,for their Phantom product,shows you virtually nothing.All it is,is a man(probably a friend of "J.D.'s)showing how happy he is,with the product.It doesn't show you how to hook it up,or what you have to do to get it activated.Their return policy,is also a joke.They give you 15 days,for some of their products.The clock,on the 15 days starts,when you place the order,It can take 10 days,for you to get the product.Their caveat,with the 15 days,is it has to be post-marked by up to the 15 days,upon return.First you have to get an RMA number,from INPhome;I'm sure they will not rush,to send you the number.Then you have to pay for return shipping;even if they sent you the wrong product.If you purchases something new,& they sent you an older model,that's the wrong product.They also tell you NOT to send things back via USPS(the Post Office).This is because their"office"is a UPS Store address.Even if their products were legitimate,this is a flim flam way to operate a business.The owner of this company,is confident,that people won't file complaints,with the proper authorities,because of the illegal nature,of their products-they are sorely mistaken.What they are advertising,is something that their products won't do.This is deceptive,& in this country,we have laws protecting consumers,about these very deceptions.I say,in this country,because,it sounds to me,like this person,is not originally from here.I'm guessing they are from India.They like to come here & make as much money from us as possible--note their rundown motels & convenience stores,or Doctors that treat you like garbage.This is not to say all people,that come here from India are like this-just many,that live up to the stereotype.I hope that that someone,who has purchased one of their products,with negative results,files a complaint.The more people that file,the faster this company will get whats coming to them & justice will be served.I haven't purchased anything from them.I sent an e-mail last week,asking several questions,& they still haven't replied.By the way, a Yahoo e-mail address is also another sign about how unprofessional this company operates.I'm glad I went to the Commentsearch site,before I sent them any money.

  9. if the line has to be provisioned to get digital channels,,,, you might as well hook up your active line straight to the back of your tv for analog channels,,,,i dont see how someone could possibly even steal cable even if that was thier intentions,, ,,, if your line is active then you have already stole it,, and if its provisioned then the cable company is giving you access to digital channels,,,

  11. The guy JD is a ripoff we are never receieved our refund !! This piece of crap of a person is a well ummm yeah a piece of crap. If I ever saw him on the street he would be part of the steet. He is nothing but a coward they preys on people's stupidity and yes my husband was stuip enough to fall for this guys fraudulant B.S. I am filing a lawsuit against him, if the man has never been to the state of FLA well welcome JD the courts are just as beautiful as the state itself....see ya in court JD I will not let this go and let you get away with doing this to people whether it takes a week two weeks or 5 years I will see you in small claims court.

    I placed an order then read all of this and CANCELED the order within a hour with e-mail confirmation. the universal phantom 999 it's just to good to be true!

I ordered it and it is suppose to be here on Monday April 12th, I am so glad that I was able to find comments - we should all order as many as possible and then just not pay the cod and send it back that way there hopefully they are getting whacked with shipping charges. Thanks again everyone for the post - I almost lost $280 bucks.

  17. people please stay away from this good 4 nothing company. i also got took for $230.00 and all i got was this big ass box that weights about 40lbs.. and come to find out that the junk didn't even worked. i tried e-mails,calls and nothing. all i get is this lady that sounds like berry white promising a whole lot of nothing.. so please stay away!

    this is a bait and switch scam. They send you one damaged item and have you send it back and switch it with a piece of crap item. IF a class action law is filed i will be happy to provide information in this.

    i have already filed a complaint with US postal inspectors, FTC and Colorado State Police.

    I also believe that "JD" is Joseph Dalaney BowyerII of Arizona wanted by the US postal inspectors.
