WHETHER YOU HAVE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES OR NOT THEIR ANSWER IS THE SAME UNCARING COLD AND UNFEELING. THEY ALREADY RE SOLD YOUR SEAT AND THEY GOT ANOTHER PERSON TO RESERVE DUE TO YOUR CANCELLATION HOWEVER THEY WILL STILL FEEL JUSTIFIED IN KEEPING YOUR HARD EARNED CASH. FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES THEY GIVE REFUNDS. DELTA AND ORBITZ JUST WANT YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT CARE IF YOU CANNOT MAKE YOUR TRIP.

Most low fares are non-refundable. That's what insurance, or a higher priced, refundable ticket are for.

For all we know, the staff were rude because you thought you were right when you probably weren't (no offence intended - but its almost certain that the ticket was non-refundable)

Call your insurance company or learn from your errors in judgement.

The only thing I can agree with you on is Orbitz which offers loads on non-existant fares, and is just a waste of time to use in the first place.
